Two River Valley is the latest WWMF destination in Greeenland, run in partnership with Solid Adventures.   After numerous seasons at Kangia River, getting to understand the location, the environment, the culture and of course the difficulties operating both in Greenland and in such a remote environment, we have put this experience and knowledge to good use.  For 2025 we are delighted to open up Two River Valley, encompassing exceptional and remote fishing across two rivers for Artctic Char.  In addition there are a plethora of saltwater fish that can be caught from the coast and from boat, using both fly and spiner.  With a brand new purpose-built lodge being constructed for the 2025 season, and with significantly improved logistics that allow much easier access to the lodge, as well as the fishing, we are extremely confident that this will be the stand out fly-fishing location in Greenland.

Greenland

Greenland has the world’s lowest population density.   Combine this with countless fjords with rivers full of fish it is an anglers Eldorado.  Anadromous as well as resident Char inhabit the freshwaters along the coastline.  Of course not all rivers are made equal.  Benefitting from extensive local knowledge and research we have come across what we feel, at Two River Valley, to be a brace of the best rivers amidst exceptional surroundings.

The Fishing

The west coast of Greenland is lined by spectacular fjords and is inhabited by at least 15 species of whales and a wide range of other wildlife. During the summer season coinciding with our operations, you can easily encounter Humpback whales cruising the open coastal waters, and even Sperm whales if you’re lucky. Greenlandic waters are also some of the most fish-abundant on the planet and as a result, anglers are able to catch cod on fly gear near the River mouth and from almost any cliffside along the coast. Arctic char are also abundant and stack up outside river mouths before migrating up the numerous rivers along the west coast of Greenland. Arctic char are very strong fighters and will put on a show that will leave seasoned anglers baffled.

The Rivers

Both rivers offer you prime fly-fishing water with fast runs, pocket water, and all the structure that you want to see in a river. The river next to the lodge offers a combination of river sections and a smaller lake separating the river sections (most rivers in Greenland have their origins from a glacier lake in the mountains). In total you have around 5-6 km of good fishing water stretching from the river mouth all the way up to a waterfall which stops the char from venturing further up the system.

The upper section offers nice deep pools with crystal clear water, a lake section in between where you can stalk the fish and where we will have a boat to cross to the other side. While the lower section below the lake offers slower pool sections that are perfect for skating dry flies, some deeper pools, and a faster section where you can try to swing intruders or similar flies. This river alone would be more than enough to explore for one week. The  second river, around 25 mins by boat from the lodge, features a similar structure with pool after pool from the start of the river mouth which are great for fishing surface flies or swinging/stripping streamers over longer pool sections. If you prefer sight casting to fish in pocket water there is plenty of that as well.

Options to Explore

One of the unique things about our new program is that it offers something for everyone! If you don’t want to spend your days walking, these two rivers and the location of the lodge offer easy access to several pools. With a combination of sea-fishing you can enjoy a relaxed week of mixed fishing at your own pace and preferences. For those who are up for a hike and to explore their own spots, this is your dream destination as both rivers offer an almost endless amount of water and pools to try. During your walks you are likely to encounter arctic foxes, reindeer, eagles, and more.

Sea-Fishing

There are two boats to take guests out to fish for Cod, Char, Halibut, and Wolf fish. Conventional tackle might be more effective, but they are also catchable on a fly rod. The coastline surrounding the lodge is absolutely full of fish, you can expect a hook up almost the moment you drop your jig or lure over the side. We are more than confident that you will be astonished at the abundance of fish in the surrounding waters.  Cod with an average weight of 3-5 kg and up to 10-15 kg, Wolf Fish, with their teeth that can crush anything around (watch your hands!) up to 30 kg, and of course Halibut. We have landed halibut up to 55 kg so far.

Estuary Fishing

Fishing the estuaries outside the river mouths, you will catch the same Arctic Char char that run the rivers, but here they are chrome and as strong as they will ever get. If you choose to, you can fish the estuary with a fly rod and strip flies as fast as you can to see what hits your fly first. We have found great spots along the coast to fish for nearly all species with a fly rod. Hooking a silver chrome Arctic Char on your 6 weight is an experience worth trying. The test fishing that we have done so far only hints at what is available and we can expect many fantastical tales over the seasons to come.  If you are really lucky, there is always the chance to hook one of the many Atlantic Salmon that feed along the coastline in the autumn. So far none have been landed as the few we have hooked have all snapped our leaders.  A challenge that we are sure we will overcome in 2025.

Accommodation

The brand new lodge will offer you all the comfort you need for a week of fishing in the remote wilderness. It is located on a small hill right next to the river mouth, with picturesque views of our secluded bay, tempting anyone to walk down for a few casts pre-breakfast casts prior to a hearty breakfast and an exciting day to follow. The lodge is perfectly located for our operation.  It allows immediate access to the ‘home’ river. Furthermore, as access is not tide dependent, the lodge can be accessed by boat at any time making transfers very easy, both to and from the lodge, for those who want to sea fish and to neighbouring river

The lodge will feature both single and double room options and have multiple bathrooms. Breakfast and dinner is served in a nice dining area and anglers will enjoy an open bar with wine and beer as well as selected spirits.  There is something truly special about sitting in the bar or the veranda, soaking up the incredible arctic  wilderness. In August and September there is a good chance to appreciate the Northern lights.

The Season

We operate in Greenland during the summer, which is the season of the midnight sun and an excellent time to experience the region by both land and water. During this time of year, you can observe whales swimming along the shoreline, icebergs calving off nearby glaciers, and local fauna growing at tremendous speed. Furthermore, the warm weather increases accessibility to hiking trails ascending into the backcountry and enables boat transit between communities along the coastline. During Greenland’s short summer, the climate is generally mild and the weather accommodating. The long days and increasing temperatures spark the reproduction cycles of sea-run Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus), which begin their migration along the coastline, into the rivers and back to the place of their origin to spawn.

Our fishing operation begins the second week of July and runs through the second week of September. Throughout the entirety of the season, fresh runs of fish continue to venture up the rivers to mix with crimson males and dark females. The beginning of the season predominantly consists of fishing for chromers and as the season progresses, the fish start stacking up in numerous pools, streams, and pockets where anglers will catch more coloured fish. Although there is no shortage of fish at any time during the season, the real challenge is targeting the big guys that tend to hide in deeper pools and underneath big schools of smaller char. Regardless of whether you visit Greenland in July, August, or September, the fishing, the rivers, and the landscape will leave you with the memories of a lifetime!

Guiding & Transport

Each group will be accompanied by two guides.  They will be on  hand to help with everything from gear, techniques, coaching, transportation, and general camp bon viveurs.  The style and nature of the fishing does not require a higher guide ratio, but rest assured, you will of course be very well looked after throughout your stay, with as little or as much assistance as required.

Best Time to Go

There is absolutely no right or wrong time to go.  At the start of the season all the Arctic Char will be chrome and will colour as the season progresses.  Early season when the rivers have less fish allows you to target bigger fish more easily, but as the season progresses, so does the number of Arctic Char in the river.
