The saltwater fly-fishing surrounding Cuba can rightly claim to be amongst the best available and when it comes to sighted fishing for migratory Tarpon it has few equals. Similar in nature to the Florida Keys in the USA the pristine inshore flats and surrounding chain of islands benefit from a strictly enforced protectionist policy. Adopted by the Cuban authorities many years ago and gradually been expanded to cover the best saltwater fly-fishing areas the benefits are only too obvious for any avid fisherman to see. Areas which were once over-fished have seen populations of Bonefish and other species quickly recover. Migratory Tarpon cruise with relative impunity and as a rule are both abundant and will hungrily chase a fly, more so than the good but more fly shy neighbours in the Florida Keys.
