Situated in Tierra del Fuego, (Land of Fire), it is in as remote and isolated an area as you can imagine. Apart from the other fishing lodges there is little in the way of human habitation with sheep being the primary inhabitant in this part of the world.
The FishingThe Rio Grande needs little by way of introduction with fish averaging 10 lbs in weight with specimens over 30 lbs caught each season. Toon Ken is situated on the middle and upper section of the river near the border with Chile. Here the fishing is primarily done with traditional fishing gear and floating or intermediate lines. The lodge has 20 kms of fishing on the Rio Grande with private access to both banks. The Lodge
Toon Ken is the newest of the Rio Grande lodges and offers anglers every convenience and comfort. Situated on a bluff overlooking the river broad windows allow anglers to overlook the river and watch the fish as they rise or roll as they make their way up river. Stylishly designed, supremely comfortable and with a friendly and dedicated house staff and guides, a comfortable and relaxing atmospheres is assured. The lodge has capacity for 6 anglers with 4 single and 2 double en suite bedrooms. Best Times to GoThe season lasts from December to April with the runs of fish being sustained throughout. Unlike salmon the fish will enter the river during all these months in equal numbers dependent primarily upon local conditions. During the months of Dec and Jan the fishing hours run later with a siesta being taken during midday to make best use of the magical dusk fishing hours. Getting ThereAnglers fly to Buenos Aires international airport and from there take the 3 hr flight to Rio Grande. You will be collected on arrival at the airport and transferred by four-wheel drive vehicle to the lodge, which takes approx two hours.
