The Area

This is an outstandingly beautiful area that offers a lot more than fantastic fishing. There are beautiful walks through the Ox mountains along the Foxford Way. The world famous Foxford Woollen Mills are in the village where you can not only buy the famous woollen clothing but take a guided tour or visit the restaurant or the art gallery. Many golf courses are in the area and other activities include horse riding or lazy days on beautiful beaches.

The area is also well known for the good food and a friendly Irish welcome in the many local restaurants and pubs.

The Fishing

From wild brown trout to sea trout, from salmon to rainbow trout, this area of Mayo can offer them all as well as some excellent sea fishing with the fly for bass and mullet.

Lough Conn and Lough Cullin offer the visiting angler the chance to fish for superb wild brown trout on the fly. Although not as big as its neighbours Lough Corrib and Mask these loughs can be daunting to the visitor. Lough Conn is over 14,000 acres and Lough Cullin is over 2,000 acres but our guides will give you every chance of catching these elusive trout by putting you in the best areas and advising you as to the best flies.

Both these loughs are limestone based and follow the same fly hatches as Corrib but tending to be slightly later.

You will also have the opportunity to fish the River Moy. The Moy is probably the most prolific salmon river in Europe with thousands of rod caught fish taken every year. Our local qualified guides will take you to their secret areas on the upper Moy where they can catch you a salmon when everyone around you has blanked. When conditions are good and water heights favourable the salmon fishing can be superb. Although not well known for its fly fishing, the upper Moy has some excellent fly waters when conditions are fair.

Also available is the Moy estuary running into Killala bay where sea trout can be caught when conditions on the lough or river are proving difficult. The majority of this fishing is by using spinner or bait but the fly can also be deadly.

As well as the sea trout the bass and mullet fishing can be excellent but demanding. This fishing is mainly carried out from specially equipped boats but at the right height of tides our experienced guide can drop you on some of the numerous sand bars where the possibility of a fish or two on the fly is extremely good.

On top of all this, fantastic stocked rainbow trout fishing can be arranged at Rooskey Trout Fishery where fish of up to 14 lbs can be caught. Rooskey Trout Fishery is a 15 acre natural lake set in beautiful surroundings and can be fished from boat or bank. You also have the opportunity to try one of the up and coming aspects of fly fishing – fly fishing for pike. These truly wild fish will take a well presented fly freely, so be sure you are up to some arm wrenching fun!

The Lodge

Foxford Lodge

The Foxford lodge is dedicated to offering guests the best in accommodation. From outstanding food and service, to the warm hospitality of the owners, Bridgette and Harry, all guests leave with the feeling that they have never stayed anywhere that they were made to feel so welcome.

The Foxford Lodge is also famous for specialised activity breaks as well as its superb fishing. These include events such as "murder mystery" weekends and specialised painting courses. All rooms in the lodge are ensuite and are of a high standard. The self catering accommodation is only 200 yards away in a development of only four houses. Each house is luxurious and comfortable with one double and two twin bedrooms, a large sitting room and a fully fitted modern kitchen and dinning area.

Wise Men Fishing Tips

The famous Lough Conn and Lough Cullin guide, Harry Feeney, gave the following tips:

Tip 1: " Many Atlantic salmon are caught on the fly by trout anglers on Lough Conn every season - so be prepared for a long battle if you hook into one."

Tip 2: "The Moy Estuary can be a challenging place to fish due to the strong tides and moving sand bars but as a qualifed and experienced guide I am confident I will put you on the fish."

Best Times to Go

Fishing is excellent throughout the season.

The prime time to go is early May for the Mayfly hatch. Loughs Conn and Cullin both fishe well throughout the year.

Availability and Pricing for the 2008 Season

Season:	The 2008 season is as follows: Trout: 15^th March to 31^th September. Salmon: 1^st February to 30^th September. Sea Trout: 17^th April to 10^th October.
Rate:	The rates for the lodge and fishing is as follows: Lodge: 45 Euros per person sharing for bed and breakfast accommodation.Self catering is 450 Euros per week for five to six people (one double room and two twin bedrooms). Fishing: For two anglers sharing a boat on the loughs 180 Euros per day and for two anglers sharing a boat on the estuary 250 Euros per day. This price includes boat and engine hire, lunch and a qualified guide. Packages will be tailored to customers specific requirements.
Typical Package Includes:	(Three day package including varied fishing) Three (x3) nights bed and breakfast (two people sharing). Three (x3) days guided fly fishing Tailor made fishing package e.g. one day on the river,one day on the lough and one day estuary fishing. Cost is 820 Euros for two anglers.
Note:	We recommend you rent a car on arrival (e.g. at Dublin, Shannon, Galway or Belfast airports). We are happy to arrange your travel should you so require.
