About the Fly Fishing SchoolLocated on the world famous River Tweed in Scotland (between Kelso and Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders), Eoin Fairgrieve’s pioneering Centre of Excellence is a dedicated fly fishing and fly-casting centre. The Centre is owned and run by World Team Speycasting Champion, Eoin Fairgrieve A.A.P.G.A.I and offers instruction in single and double-handed casting techniques in the stunning surroundings of the Scottish Borders. "At the Eoin Fairgrieve Centre of Excellence, our teaching philosophy revolves around creating a relaxed and comfortable environment for the student to realise his/her full casting potential. We analysis each key point of the pupil’s casting cycle and relay to them both the positive and the negative aspects of their style. Our intension to give the caster an understanding of the fundamental principles of each disciple of fly casting and how they relate to more energy efficient fly presentation." - Eoin Fairgrieve A.A.P.G.A.I
Course ContentAt the Centre of Excellence, Eoin teaches all forms of fly casting, specialising in modern Speycasting disciplines like, for example:
Each cast is broken down into sections, giving the pupil a full appreciation of the key points of the particular casting cycle. Each individual is instructed at a pace that suits their particular casting ability, and patience and encouragement is a cornerstone of Eoin’s teaching technique. Pupils can be instructed on a one to one basis, in groups of two or more people, or elect to join one of the weekly Spey or Underhand clinics running throughout the year. The salmon fishing division is located on the Centre’s own private beat on the Sunlaws stretch of the River Teviot. The Sunlaws beat is 1.8 miles long and consists of 11 named salmon pools set in a stunning woodland and parkland area three miles upstream of the Junction pool at Kelso. With fast, streamy water, Sunlaws is the perfect enviroment to learn all aspects of doublehand casting and salmon fishing. The Centre of Excellence also lets day salmon tickets on the beat throughout the season. As well as his teaching practice at the Centre, Eoin can organise and customise salmon fishing packages to your requirements on many of the Tweed’s beats. Eoin can join you for an hour, a morning or a full day on your particular beat to improve your casting whilst you actually fish. (Note: This service is only available with prior consent from the beat’s head boatman). The educational and corporate division of the Centre is located at the Roxburghe Trout Fishery. The fishery is situated in the stunning surrounding of the Roxburghe Hotel and Golf Course and benefits from newly constructed log cabin, disabled access platforms and educational information boards. The Roxburghe Fishery is also the home of the Tweedstart angling project. Tweedstart is a non-profit making organisation set up to promote angling to all ages and social backgrounds in the Scottish borders and NorthNorthumberland. Anyone interested in attending one of the Tweedstart days should contact eoin@wherewisemenfish.com for further details. Past Student Comments"A quick thank you very much for the lesson last Friday afternoon. I enjoyed the tuition and certainly in terms of feedback to you your coaching style and approach was excellent. You have a gift of putting what many of us, I’m sure, see as very complex techniques into a simple explanation. You also have a relaxed approach which helped me feel relaxed and ensured I got the most from the session. Many thanks again and I will link up with you again in the future." "Just a quick mail to thank you ever so much for my fishing lesson yesterday. I benefited enormously from the 2 hour session and can’t wait to put all my new skills into action in the near future! Your approach to instruction is excellent and making me feel relaxed and comfortable from the very first cast helped me to benefit enormously. Many thanks again and best wishes." "Many thank for your instruction last week. I enjoyed your company immensely and would like to book up further sessions during my next visit to the Tweed in November. Please let me know availability and keep up the good work! Incidentally, the left hand double spey is singing! Kind regards." Availability and Pricing for the 2007 Season
