Previously known as "The Canadian Salmon Club", this wonderful lodge was for members only and invited guests. Hosting six anglers at a time, the Club, with over 100 yeasr of history provides a tranquil and private fishing experience allowing you to escape from the hectic pace of everyday life.  The Club offers private access to a 7 mile stretch on the Bonaventure, one of the world’s most picturesque salmon rivers with unparalleled water clarity.  Alongside doorstep access to some spectacular pools your stay is combined with exceptional service, individual accommodation and privacy.

It is one of the most remarkable places you will find to fish for Atlantic Salmon.   There are very few salmon destinations that are as suited to both sight-fishing for salmon as well as fishing with dry flies.

Location & Environment

The Club on the Bonaventure is exquisitely positioned perched atop a high bluff on the Bonaventure.   The Club itself is approx. 25 miles inland from the sea.   Totally secluded from any other lodging or habitation and with immediate access to its fishable water, both via canoes or a short 5-10 min vehicle drive in is unquestionably the most sought after destination to fish on the Bonaventure River.

The River -The Bonaventure (“Bonnie”)

With one of the strongest runs of salmon of all the Gaspe rivers the Bonaventure is a truly spectacular salmon river.  Each year it typically produces Atlantic Salmon of up to and over 30lbs but where it really stands alone is in its almost unparalleled water clarity.   Running gin-clear all season it is possible to spot fish wherever you stop.   The ability to see salmon in such clarity is exciting beyond measure, although it can also be emotionally exhausting as you pit your wits against a very obvious quarry.   Access is by both wading and from canoe during high water. It is renowned as ‘the river’ for dry fly fishing.   Of note the water temperature of the Bonaventure remains relatively cool throughout the summer.

The Salmon Fishing

Private access to the 7 miles of water that the Club fishes is what makes the fishing at The Club so special.  The fishing over part of the B sector of the Bonaventure includes a range of excellent pools that both hold salmon and fish well across all conditions, from high to low water.   Canoes that are moored immediately below the lodge provide access to a good proportion of the pools, with the fishing being from both the bank and from the canoes depending on the water conditions or anglers preference.   With no requirement to drive more than a very short distance to the fishing, anglers typically return to the lodge midday for lunch and a siesta before returning to the water early afternoon.   The location and environment make for a very relaxing and enjoyable experience.

Best Times To Go

The fishing starts from early June and runs through to the end of September.  Salmon start to enter the rivers in late May and the numbers of fish will be building from early June when the lodge opens.  Mid-June to July are considered the prime weeks although good water conditions on any week or part of the season will always dictate individual prospects.
